Christmas in the city provides many opportunities to show Melbourne at its best during the traditionally busy season.  New decorations have revitalised the city’s Christmas celebration, together with a forest of native trees at City Square and stunning light projections. More than 80 events and attractions are planned for the 30 days of the 2011 Christmas Festival experience.  Find out how your business can get involved below.

Christmas comes against a backdrop of the city’s strong economic performance. Melbourne’s commercial and retail sectors lead the nation, with international and local retailers showing great confidence in our city. Tenant demand for office space remains strong and the Melbourne central city office market has Australia’s lowest vacancy rate.

Melbourne Retail and Hospitality report cards released



City retailers continue to make their mark in laneways and the inner city fringe, according to the Year Five Retail Report Card, a joint initiative of the City of
Melbourne and the Victorian Government.

The thriving hospitality sector is also continuing to grow and diversify, reinforcing Melbourne’s status as the ‘foodie capital’. Suburb outlook
Docklands by the numbers


From industrial heartland of the city over the last 10 years Docklands is still growing at a rapid pace. The City of Melbourne has started releasing, the 2010 CLUE (Census of Land Use and Employment) Reports by suburb. These reports include data, trend graphs and analysis on the City’s economy and an overview of census contents. Docklands and North Melbourne are the first reports that can be downloaded from the City of Melbourne website.

Christmas is a special and exciting time in the City of Melbourne, and in 2011 the city’s streets and landmarks will be transformed with a brand new Christmas decorations program including a Christmas forest made of living native trees at City Square, as well as over 80 events and attractions throughout 30 days of the 2011 Christmas Festival experience.
